Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.28%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Warehousing sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.28%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9532), which rose 4.96% or 166.00 points to trade at 3,514.00 at the close. Meanwhile, NTT Data Corp. (TYO:9613) added 3.26% or 77.00 points to end at 2,443.50 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) was up 2.79% or 110.00 points to 4,046.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Toho Co., Ltd. (TYO:9602), which fell 2.62% or 144.00 points to trade at 5,341.00 at the close. Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) declined 2.48% or 60.00 points to end at 2,365.00 and Denso Corp. (TYO:6902) was down 2.37% or 67.50 points to 2,781.50.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2255 to 1352 and 263 ended unchanged.

Shares in Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9532) rose to 5-year highs; up 4.96% or 166.00 to 3,514.00. Shares in Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.79% or 110.00 to 4,046.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 13.68% to 24.43 a new 52-week high.

Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.20% or 0.16 to $82.06 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.22% or 0.19 to hit $87.19 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 1.29% or 30.35 to trade at $2,316.05 a troy ounce.
